From Apprentice to Mentor: Morgan's Journey at C8

National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect time to highlight the incredible career pathways available through apprenticeships.
Meet Morgan Prigent, who started as an apprentice with us and has now taken on the role of mentor for the next generation.
Lessons from an apprenticeship
For Morgan, the biggest takeaway from his apprenticeship was responsibility.
"Ensuring jobs were done to a high standard and completed on time was a key lesson I learned," he says. The ability to take ownership of his work has shaped his career."
Growth and evolution at C8
After completing his apprenticeship, Morgan’s role has evolved significantly.
"Ian and Nick have given me more responsibilities and trust, such as running my own jobs and mentoring apprentices. I’ve gone from learning to leading."
This transition highlights how an apprenticeship doesn’t just prepare you for a job - it builds a foundation for leadership.
Becoming a mentor
Now, Morgan is guiding first-year apprentice Gabe through the early stages of his journey.
"It feels odd because my time as an apprentice passed so quickly. However, I feel more than capable of passing my knowledge to the next generation of apprentices."
His approach to mentorship? Patience, guidance, and leading by example.
"Gabe is fresh out of school and new to the industry. I try to give him the apprenticeship I had, sharing my knowledge while helping him understand workplace discipline."
Why choose an apprenticeship?
Morgan’s advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship in mechanical and electrical engineering is simple:
"Go for it. It’s a skill for life - no one can take it away from you. You can use it anywhere in the world, which is exactly what I plan on doing next year!"
The practical experience gained through an apprenticeship builds confidence, career security, and future opportunities.
Overcoming challenges
The most challenging part of Morgan’s apprenticeship was taking on more responsibility towards the end of his training.
"Having my peers rely on me to complete tasks safely and correctly was a big shift. I overcame it by taking my time, practicing patience, and putting in extra hours on weekends to build confidence."
The value of apprenticeships
In today’s world, apprenticeships are more valuable than ever.
"There are fewer people choosing apprenticeships, making skilled professionals highly sought after. Plus, you’re getting paid to learn—unlike university or college!"
A future of possibilities
Completing an apprenticeship has set Morgan up for long-term success.
"It’s given me the freedom to work anywhere in the world and even the potential to start my own electrical business in the future."
Morgan’s journey proves that an apprenticeship isn’t just a job - it’s a launchpad for a lifelong career.
